Below is a list of various outside organizations and websites that we have found helpful. Please contribute to this list.

We have broken these resources into the following sections: General Grief-Related, Loss of a Child, Pregnancy & Infant Loss, and Resources for Children/Teens.

General Grief Related Websites

  • AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services (ACCESS)
    • ACCESS is an air disaster bereavement support network dedicated to connecting those who have survived or lost loved ones in private, military and commercial plane crashes and other aviation tragedies with individuals who have lived through similar losses.
  • American Association of Retired People
  • American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
    • Provides programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people with mood disorders, and involves them in the work of the Foundation
  • Compassionate Friends
    • The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive.
  • Coping with a Loss
    • This is actually a law office that provides these resources. They are very extensive and very helpful.
  • Facing Bereavement
    • Excellent resources! Tons of great articles
  • Grief, Loss and Recovery
    • GLR offers emotional support and friendship and provides a safe haven for bereaved persons to share their grief. This is a safe place for people to mourn—emotionally, physically and spiritually.   
  • Grief Recovery ~ The Action Program for moving beyond loss
    • An Action Program for moving beyond loss.
  • GriefNet.org
    • GriefNet.org is an Internet community of persons dealing with grief, death, and major loss. Their companion site, KIDSAID.com, provides a safe environment for kids and their parents to find information and ask questions.
  • Haven of Northern Virginia
    • Organization of trained volunteers offering emotional support to the bereaved, the seriously ill, the dying and to their families and friends. Haven provides education to the community about the needs of those who are grieving.
  • National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved
    • Called by the healing ministry of Jesus, the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved is committed to serve all people who have experienced the death of a loved one. Our holistic care is dedicated to the spiritual support of individuals, parishes, and communities
  • Surviving Suicide
    • Information for the newly bereaved after the sudden tragic loss to suicide

Loss of a Child General Websites

  • Alive Alone
    • Alive Alone is an organization for the education and charitable purposes to benefit bereaved parents, whose only child or all children are deceased, by providing a self-help network and publications to promote communication and healing, to assist in resolving their grief, and a means to reinvest their lives for a positive future.
  • Angel Wing Parents
    • They do kind acts of kindness and charity work in remembrance of children to keep their light shining bright. They support and help each other.
  • Bereaved Parents of the USA
    • BP/USA is a national non-profit self-help group that offers support, understanding, compassion and hope especially to the newly bereaved be they bereaved parents grandparents nor siblings struggling to rebuild their lives after the death of their children, grandchildren or siblings.
  • Grief Haven
    • Provides support (views, newsletters, e-havens, music we love) and resources (books, music, poetry, support groups, support organizations, grief therapists) to parents and others who have lost a child.
  • M.I.S.S. Foundation (Mothers in Sympathy and Support)
    • MISS Foundation is an online support site. In addition to the online support site, we also have face-to-face support groups in certain areas. The "Families" section contains current and back issues of our award-winning newsletter, MISSing Angels, as well as our online support groups, a place to find face-to-face support or information on beginning your own MISS Foundation Support Chapter, and even a downloadable funeral planner.
  • National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children, Inc.
    • POMC® provides the on-going emotional support needed to help parents and other survivors facilitate the reconstruction of a "new life" and to promote a healthy resolution. Not only does POMC help survivors deal with their acute grief but also helps with the criminal justice system.
  • Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood Program
    • The SUDC program collects and distributes information regarding SUDC as it becomes available. The SUDC Program works collaboratively with families and professionals to address the many needs following these tragedies. The SUDC Program understands that families may grieve in isolation, without information, resources or the knowledge that other families exist with a similar loss. The SUDC Program aims to prevent this situation by offering trained peer support volunteers.

Pregnancy, Stillbirth & Infant Loss Related

  • Angel Names Association
    • A nonprofit, 501(C)(3), charitable organization dedicated to assisting families of stillborn children through programs designed to provide financial assistance for end-of-life expenses and counseling services, and funding for stillbirth research
  • Baby Steps
    • The BabySteps Children’s Fund is a non-profit organization offering information and support to bereaved parents and children suffering the loss of a child. BabySteps is named after the baby steps that form the long and difficult road to recovery from the loss of a child
  • A Child of Promise
    • Founded to support and guide families who are making the difficult choice to continue their pregnancies to term following an adverse prenatal diagnosis
  • Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation
    • For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization.
  • Still Fathers
    • Fathers who have experienced stillbirth, infant death, or miscarriage walk a uniquely sorrowful and challenging path. Still Fathers is a new resource for such fathers, providing support, encouragement, and a place to touch base.
  • SHARE – Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc.
    • Support those who have had the tragic loss of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life.

For Children & Teens

  • Dougy Center for Grieving Children
    • The Dougy Center provides support in a safe place where children, teens, young adults, and their families grieving a death can share their experiences.
  • Comfort Zone Camp
    • Comfort Zone is here to help you and your family year-round. But because camp and support groups cannot last 365 days, we have developed a number of online resources for adults and teens to turn to when grief rears its ugly head – including the ability to Ask a Counselor a question and receive an answer within 48 hours
  • Sesame Street's Grieving as a Family: Finding Comfort Together
    • Sesame Street's website provides many many resources for families that are grieving, including books, movies, resources for families to do with together to cope with grief.
