Explanation of Perinatal Bereavement Supplies

The following is a list of the supplies we collect and donate to various hospitals in support of their perinatal bereavement programs.

  • Memory Boxes
    • Zara's Memory Box We strongly rely on the consistency of the supplies from Memories Unlimited. We consider them the best and recommend them highly. The ivory brocade box full of supplies, the "Premium Complete Memory Box", is our first choice. This includes items such as an envelope to collect a wisp of hair, a pretty case to do hand or foot molds, a mother's journal, baby outfit with matching hat, etc. This is a great place to keep treasured memories, including pictures, small blanket, or such. We typically try to order in larger quantities to get better pricing (~$55each when ordering 12).
  • camera and photo suppliesDigital Camera/printer, including photo paper/ink
    • We have found that Kodak Easy Share systems are the easiest systems for nurses to work with. The photos can be downloaded onto a computer, edited, printed easily and CDs of the photos can be burned.
  • Case of modeling compound & Seashells to hold the moldings
    • The modeling compound Megan's handprintbest to use does not keep once opened, so rather than buy big blocks of it, we order it in individual packaged "teacher packs" of white compound in 1 oz packs. The compound is kneaded and pressed into seashells before a sweet hand or foot is pushed into the surface to capture a beautiful hand or foot shape to keep. (~$30 for a box of 75 packs)
  • Bereavement Bears with sound units
    • When a woman is cared for who has an endangered pregnancy or a baby who is critically ill, we will often offer to record the baby's heartbeat on a "Build a Bear - Build a sound" recording unit. We then put the sound unit in a "Build a Bear" and give to the parents to keep. When purchasing the bears, leave an opening in the back for the sound recorder after it's recorded. Our favorite bear for this is the Velvet bear (~$16) plus sound recorder (~$8).
    Dress
  • Newborn clothes/Preemie clothes/Doll clothes
    • Handmade or store-bought clothes are always needed. When a baby is brought to their parents, it is nice if they are in non-hospital clothes. Same goes for the blankets.
  • Books
    • See our list of books we recommend and are constantly needing.
  • blanketsHandmade blankets & hats
    • We always have a need for handmade blankets! These are so special, especially if they have matching caps. We need all sizes!
  • Silver baby rings
    • These silver rings are used to take photos of the babies hands and are then given to the mothers as a keepsake. Often the babies hands with mothers wedding rings are photographed, but some women's hands swell during pregnancy and they don't wear their rings to the hospital. (~$3.5 each ring)
